Died Dec. 10, 2019

Audrey Mae (Stapleton) Johnson, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 10, 2019.

Audrey was born in Hibbing Minn., and with her family, moved to Portland, Ore. and started attending Commerce High School.

It was in Portland where she met and married Doyle Eugene Johnson, on Nov. 26, 1951, who at the time was serving in the Army during the Korean war.

After Doyle’s completion of his military duty, they lived in Portland, then moved to Joseph, Ore. and later made their home in Sweet Home in 1959.

Audrey worked in the main office for Santiam Lumber, later Willamette Industries, retiring in 1986.

She and Doyle loved to entertain, travel, and learn about many different cultures. Audrey was also an active member in her church, Fir Lawn Lutheran, where after retirement, she focused her talents on fundraising to send children from Sweet Home to summer camp at Camp Lutherwood.

Additionally, Audrey was active in the local PEO chapter.

Audrey was preceded in death by her brothers, Lauren and Gary Stapleton, and her husband Doyle.

She is survived by her sister, Flora Laville; her daughters Taryn Berry of Vancouver, Wash. and Leigh MacKenzie of Baton Rouge, La.

Audrey was blessed with six grandchildren: Chrysanne Lowe of Portland; Erin Berry of Washougal, Wash.; Chalyce Bland of Stamford Conn.; Colin MacKenzie of Baton Rouge; Caleb MacKenzie of Tampa; and Cameron MacKenzie of Denver.

She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren.

Audrey will be remembered and missed. Her love of the Lord was evident in the way she loved and accepted others. She possessed the gift of making those around her feel comfortable and valued.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to either Camp Lutherwood, in care of Fir Lawn Lutheran Church of Sweet Home or the PEO Scholarship Fund, c/o chapter of Sweet Home, made out to OSC P.E.O Sisterhood Charitable Trust.

On Sunday, Jan. 19, Taryn and Leigh will host a time of remembrance at the Sweet Home Senior Center from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.

A light lunch will be provided. Audrey’s memorial service will be held at Mosaic Church in Portland on Jan. 24 at 11:00 a.m.
