Wrestlers qualify record 23 boys for state in winning regional

Sweet Home wrestlers won their sixth straight regional wrestling title Saturday, Feb. 22, with a dominating performance in the Special District 2 championships held at Stayton.

"We showed up," said Coach Steve Thorpe, for whom this was his 21st district title in 24 years at the helm for the Huskies.

Sweet Home scored 477.5 points to win the team title over second-place Cascade (214), followed by Stayton (167) and Siuslaw (163.5).

The Huskies finished with five district champions and qualified what Thorpe believes is a record 23 wrestlers for the state meet this Friday and Saturday, Feb....
