Plant sale to fund scholarships

PEO Chapter FA is selling plants through April 13.

Proceeds go to scholarships for local women, both current graduates and those returning to school.

Flowers, herbs, vegetables and some potted plants are available.

Orders and payment are due by April 13. Plants will be available for pickup or delivery on May 7.

Rock and Mineral Show canceled

The 72nd annual Sweet Home Gem and Mineral Show, scheduled for March 28 and 29, has been cancelled.

Search and Rescue Team recruiting

The Linn County Sheriff Sheriff’s Office is recruiting young men and women, ages 14 to 18, to join the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team and participate in a 10-day summer training program.

This will be the 27th Search and Rescue Training Academy in Linn County and will be held June 19 through June 29.

Those who are interested in becoming an integral part of the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue mission should have an interest in community service and a desire to be a part of a highly trained and professional life saving organization.

There is an application process that includes oral interviews, a background check and physical aptitude test.

Applicants must attend one recruit meeting at the Sheriff’s Office at 7 p.m. on April 13 or May 1 to attend the academy. Successful applicants will be eligible to attend.

Training will include classes in wilderness survival, shelter building, search tactics, first aid/CPR, map and compass reading, rappelling and many more topics.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, March 27, is homestyle turkey patty with gravy, Lyonnaise potatoes, Brussels sprouts, French bread and coconut treasure cake.

The menu on Monday, March 30, is beef Spanish rice bake, green beans, spinach romaine salad, squash roll and seasonal fresh fruit.

The menu on Tuesday, March 31, is chicken Brunswick stew, imperial blend vegetables, apple cranberry coleslaw, whole wheat roll and chocolate oatmeal bar.

Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
