RESCUE WORKERS and police surround a car involved in a three-vehicle collision Thursday evening that left a Salem woman dead.

A Salem woman died Thursday evening, April 16, in a three-car collision near the intersection of Main Street and Pleasant Valley Road, police said.

Police were dispatched at 7:53 p.m. to the crash, and found Sherry Wheeler, 48, deceased upon their arrival.

An investigation by the Multi-Agency Investigative Team revealed that Wheeler's vehicle was traveling eastbound on Main Street at "a high rate of speed" as it entered the city limits and collided with a vehicle near the intersection of Main and 1st Avenue. Her car then collided with a second vehicle at the intersection with Pleasant Valley Road, before coming to rest in front of 250 Main St.

The MAIT assisted the Sweet Home Police Department. The team consists of members of the Albany Police Department, the Lebanon Police Department, the Linn County Sheriff's Office, and the Oregon State Police.

Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District personnel checked the operators of the other two vehicles, who chose not to be transported to the hospital.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone having knowledge related to this incident is asked to contact Sweet Home Police Detective Keenan Martin at (541) 367-5181.
