Raymond “Steve” Wesley Stevens, 85, of Sweet Home died May 10, 2020.

He was born April 10, 1935 in Thomas, Okla. to Lloyd Franklin and Vessay J. (Hensley) Stevens.

Mr. Stevens served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1957, including in Korea. He was injured as a paratrooper and finished service as chef for officers. He was discharged at Fort Lewis, Wash.

He stayed in the Tacoma, Wash., area for many years, taking several road trips back to Oklahoma. He moved to Sweet Home in 1991.

Mr. Stevens worked as a painter and jack of all trades. He also worked on a salmon fishing boat in Alaska. He loved to work on vehicles – buy, fix up, trade; the next one was always the best.

Mr. Stevens married Dorthea in Tacoma and had three children. They later divorced.

After moving to Sweet Home he met and married Sharrell Britton, the love of his life. They traveled all over, living for a while in Washington, the Oregon Coast, Arizona and Oklahoma. They always returned to Sweet Home.

Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife, Sharrell of Sweet Home; children Brad, Jody and David, all of Washington; three sisters, Lois of California, and Mildred and Lena May, both of Oklahoma; step-children Teresa Starline of Sweet Home, Sandra Taylor of Lebanon, Angel Kragness of Sweet Home, and Mike Struminski of Reedsport; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nine step-grandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
