East-end sidewalk project costs keep rising, thanks to delays

A sidewalk project along Highway 20 in Sweet Home, which has been in the works for five years, has ballooned to over $3 million in total costs, City Council members learned Tuesday, July 28.
The project, initially proposed to the Oregon Department of Transportation in 2015, was intended to create a sidewalk on both sides of Main Street from 55th to Foster Reservoir. But it now only includes a sidewalk on the north side of the street and two pedestrian crossings.
