Janice Lorraine Richmond, 82, of Sweet Home, died Oct. 11, 2020.

She was born Nov. 9, 1937 in Gales Creek to Max V. and Alice Cordelia (Brown) Shewey.

She grew up in various locations because her dad was a logger. She was the “middle child” in a family of 15 children. She attended school in Albany, then moved to Eureka, Calif., to live with her sister Gloria and graduated from high school in Eureka.

She married Tony Gray in 1957 and later moved to Fortuna, Calif. In 1965. The Grays had three daughters and a son.  She enjoyed being a homemaker until she was widowed in 1985. She then became a para-educator in special education for seven years.

She married Lawrence Richmond in 2004 and they settled in Sweet Home that same year.

Mrs. Richmond enjoyed painting, gardening, traveling in “the bus” (motorhome) and meals and outings with friends and family. She enjoyed attending church at local fellowships, most recently at Valley Life Church in Lebanon.

Mrs. Richmond is survived by her husband, Lawrence Richmond of Sweet Home; daughters Carrie Coppini of Ferndale, Calif. and Julie Rhee of Spanaway, Wash .; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; some siblings and multitudes of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Mrs. Richmond was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Gray in 1985; son Paul Gray in 2008, and daughter Laurie Gash in 2020.

A funeral service was held Oct. 16 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel, with final burial at Gilliland Cemetery.
