Campers snap up local spots

February 10, 2021

Thinking about spending a weekend at one of the local campgrounds this summer?

Better move fast or you can forget it.

Weekends at River Bend, Cascadia State Park and Clear Lake are booked into late September and Sunnyside is full through July and August, said Karrie King, county reservations specialist.

King said that in her 21 years taking reservations for campsites in Linn County, this has been the busiest year ever.

“December was a little slow,” she said last week, “but starting out on Jan. 2, I’ve been solid on the phone.”

She said bookings are normally at this level “five months from now.”

“People are having to call us up and say, ‘What do you have available,’” said Parks Director Brian Carroll.

He noted that some parks continue to offer first-come, first-served site access, “but that’s gotten more limited over the years because of demand. Most people recognize that you have to plan ahead of time.”

King said she’s heard from RV dealers that sales have skyrocketed during the COVID pandemic.
