Shirley June Black, 89, of Albany, formerly of Sweet Home, died April 18, 2021.
She was born May 20, 1931 in Colton, Calif., to Byron William Sr. and Nylah Ruth (Long) Mabee.
She lived in Bloomington, Calif., Portland and Sweet Home.
Mrs. Black attended grade school in Bloomington. In 1946 she moved with her parents to Sweet Home, graduating from Sweet Home High School in 1949. She attended Pacific Bible School (now Warner Pacific) in Portland.
She married James Sherrill Black on Feb. 24, 1951 in Lebanon.
She lived on the family farm in Pleasant Valley for 66 years.
Mrs. Black was a church pianist and organist for over 50 years.
She was an officer in the Ore-gon School Food Service Association, and the local and state P.T.A. She was also a 4-H leader, sheep superintendent at Linn County Fair, Linn County Planning Advisory Committee member and volunteered at the Hope Center.
Mrs. Black enjoyed classical music and operas. She traveled across the U.S., Alaska and Australia with her husband.
She worked at Bradley Bookkeeping in Sweet Home, Premier Insurance in Portland and in school district Food Service at Sweet Home High School for 20 years.
Mrs. Black is survived by her husband, Jim; sons Stanley and Richard; daughter Thema; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
