Sweet Home hosted a season-opening golf tournament Wednseay, April 14, at Mallard Creek, which included players from Cascade. Cottage Grove, Marshfield, Woodburn and Junction City, with both boys and girls competitions. Carsen Perry, left, was Sweet Home's top finisher, with a 104, which tied for 10th on the boys side. Dakota Melkvik shot a 118, good for 17th, Joseph Hiemenz 121, and Morgan Sands 118. Ramsey Gordon of Cascade was the top individual, shooting 83, two ahead of Woodburn's Ty Beyer. Team scores for the boys were: Cascade 397, Marshfield 407, Junction City 440, and Sweet Home 462. For the girls, Swet Home's Maren Weld was fourth out of nine players, shooting a 61 over nine holes. Bailey Womack, pictured at right, shot 67, good for sixth. Woodburn's Ana Sanchez was the top finisher, with a 56. In a nine-hole boys JV round, Sweet Home freshman Chet Garrett finished with a 64. Jacob Silvers, also a freshman, had an 88.
