Firefighters battle a garage fire early Monday morning, June 28, on North River Drive. At 3:49 a.m. on Monday morning, Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance Service firefighters responded to a garage fireat 1078 North River Drive. Damage to the structure was estimated at $16,500 for the structure and $15,000 for the contents. "The garage is probably totaled, and I would guess that there are two cars damaged as well," said Fire Chief David Barringer. The chief said that in the weekend's heat wave, "our call volume has gone up by quite a little bit." "We've had an increase in traffic and people using the lake," he said. "The population's gone up. I would call those heat-related activities that are happening in our neck of the woods."
