Three finalists named for Sweet Home School District superintendent

The Sweet Home School Board has announced three finalists for further consideration to be the next superintendent for the Sweet Home School District.
Finalist Paul Peterson is the interim principal of the Scappoose Middle School. From 2006 to 2011, Peterson served as the superintendent of the Scappoose School District, followed by a seven year stint as the assistant superintendent of the Northwest Regional ESD. Peterson has also served as an interim superintendent for the Silver Falls and Scappoose School Districts. He received his master's degree in school administration from Heritage College, WA.
Finalist Dr. Teresa Rensch has worked in the Konocti (Calif.) school system since 2014 as the director of curriculum and instruction. Prior to her current assignment, she was the principal at North Tahoe (Nev.) from 2006 to 2014. Rensch earned her master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Chicago (Ill.) and completed her doctoral degree in educational leadership and management in March 2020 from the Capella University in Minnesota.
Finalist Lisa Riggs has been the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for the Gresham Barlow School District since 2018. From 2015 to 2018, she held a similar position for the San Antonio (Texas) Independent School District. Riggs has two master's degrees in educational leadership and curriculum and instruction from University of Victoria (B.C.) and Seattle City University (Wash.), respectively. She is currently working on her doctoral degree in educational leadership from San Diego State University (Calif.).
The school board will begin background and reference checks for each of the finalists. Each prospective candidate will be invited for a "day in the district" on Tuesday, Aug. 10. At that time, staff and members of the community will have an opportunity to meet the candidates. The staff and community "meet and greet" will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Sweet Home High School common areas. Comment cards will be provided for participants to share thoughts with the school board.
