Donald "Don" Ray Emmert, 94, of Sweet Home, died Oct. 30, 2020.

He was born June 22, 1928, in Hubbard to Rolena (Lehman) and Ivan L. Emmert.

He met his wife Berdina at school in Omaha, Neb. They were married June 28, 1951 in Delft, Minn., and were devoted to each other for the next 69 years, raising a family of three children.

The Emmerts lived in many places including Sweet Home, Monroe, Wash., and in Goshen, Ind., for several years. They moved back to Sweet Home in 1964, with a brief two-year stay in Peoria, Ariz. They had recently moved to Albany.

Mr. Emmert taught school for most of his career from second to eighth grades, most of that time in the Sweet Home School District. His various other occupations varied from logging, to pastor for eight-plus years, house painting and handyman.

Mr. Emmert had a deep and lasting faith in Jesus Christ. He enjoyed serving in many capacities in his local church, including teaching, working with the high school crew, and nearly any service project that came his way.

He is survived by his three children, Beverly Terrien of Evry, France, Ron Emmert of Albany, and Dean Emmert of Eureka, Mo .; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Emmert was preceded in death by his wife, Berdina Emmert; brothers Harold Emmert and Robert Emmert; and sisters Virginia Miller, Carolyn Groat and Patricia Kehm.

A combined celebration of life for both Berdina and Don will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at Sweet Home Evangelical Church, 1347 Long St., Sweet Home.
