John "Jack" Lawrence Earle, 85, of Sweet Home, died Nov. 9, 2021, in Salem following a brief illness.
He was born in 1936 in Brockton, Mass., to Robert D. and Olive I. Earle.
He grew up in East Bridgewater, Mass., where he engaged in home-grown science experiments, spent his summers boating and fishing, and was a ham radio operator.
After graduating from high school, Mr. Earle went on to study electrical engineering and worked as an electrical engineer until shortly before his death. After serving two years in the Army, he moved to California where he met his wife, Arda. They were married for nearly 50 years.
He lived in Sweet Home for the past 25 years. He was active in his church, belonged to the Retired Tugboat Association, was interested in astronomy, and was co-parent with Arda to many adopted cats over the years. Mr. Earle was an avid tugboat enthusiast, loved a delicious meal and the company of good friends.
He spent the end of his career working at White's Electronics in Sweet Home until the company closed a couple years ago. He was dedicated to his work and even more dedicated to the good friends he found while working at White's.
Mr. Earle is survived by his brother, William Earle of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Arda; his older brother David Earle; and his half-brother, Robert K. Earle.
A private graveside service was held at the family plot in Sharon Massachusetts at Rock Ridge Cemetery.
