Those who braved the recent “Oregon mists” no doubt noticed a decided difference in the appearance of the South Santiam above Foster Reservoir. Records of the Foster office of Corps of Engineers show a sharp rise in water of over 19 thousand cubic feet during a 24-hour period.

Surface water became a problem for some homes and businesses as the heavy rainfall saturated the ground, measuring one foot deep in some areas. Al’s Market on East Long Street had about two inches of water inside the store, and Lakeside Market reported water was running into their store.
