Ronald Dale West, 95, of Sweet Home, died Dec. 22, 2021.

He was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Zanesville, Ohio, to Ellis and Ruth Elizabeth (Leaf) West.

Mr. West moved, from Zanesville across the country, with stops in Florida, Washington, California, Wyoming, New Mexico, Montana and, finally, Sweet Home in 1994.

He served in the United States Army in the 336th. He played trumpet in the Army Services Forces Band. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon.

Mr. West was a music teacher for 33 years, was a professional musician traveling across the country with dance bands and playing with several symphony orchestras, including Billings Symphony Orchestra, where he was principal trumpet for 27 years.

He enjoyed rock hunting, gardening fishing, hunting and, later in life, became a painter.

Mr. West is survived by children, Chris West and son-in-law Ed of Haugen, Mont., Dan and daughter-in-law Chris West of Eugene, Jeff and daughter-in-law Lynn West of Belgrade, Mont., Ruth and son-in-law Lou Polcari of Redding, Calif., and Sarah and son-in-law Jon Sleight of Puyallup, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie West; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Betty West; and parents Ellis and Ruth West.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
