Man killed by train near Harrisburg

A Springfield man was killed Friday evening, April 22, after being struck by a train on Cartney Drive near Highway 99E north of Harrisburg.
According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, 65-year-old Rodney Lundy was stopped on the tracks when a northbound freight train collided with his 1996 Pontiac Firebird. Witnesses described Lundy as standing outside of the vehicle when the train hit.
He was pronounced dead at the scene when deputies responded shortly after 9:30 p.m.
Officials stated that the car didn’t appear to have mechanical problems, and that it Lundy may have purposely remain...
