'Hands-on History Day' set

Participants take part in 1800s life at Brownsville event

Volunteer Mandy Cole teaches youngsters how to make corn husk dolls.

Individuals of all ages will have a chance to learn about the 1800s in the mid-valley during the third "Hands-On History Day" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 27, at the Linn County Museum, 101 Park Ave., Brownsville.

Opportunities include learning how to make corn husk dolls, dipping candles, making cordage and press cider, taking wagon rides and learning how to pan for gold or to use a pedal-powered lathe to turn wooden bowls, among many other activities and events.

The Crazed Weasels and the Antiquity String Band will provide live music.

Firelight Stories will tell Ore-gon Trail...
