The New Era - All about Sweet Home since 1929

Leo Deen Bennett, 91, of Corvallis, a longtime resident of Sweet Home, passed away Sept. 9, 2022.

He was born Dec. 7, 1930, in Lebanon, to Norval and Lucille (Whitworth) Bennett.

He grew up in Foster and graduated from Sweet Home Union High School Class of 1949.

He married Barbara Jean Marchbanks on Dec. 3, 1950, and had two children. Charlotte was born on Oct. 9, 1953, and Gary was born on June 29, 1956.

Leo worked in the lumber industry at Santiam Lumber, then Willamette Industries as an electrician and then a maintenance supervisor until he retired in 1990.

Leo is survived by his wife of 71 years, Barbara; son Gary and his wife Janelle (Updegrave) Bennett; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1½ great- great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Charlotte Rodgers.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Luncheon with military honors will follow at Camp Attitude, 45829 S. Santiam Highway in Foster.
