Police Officer Sean Potter, center, stands with workers from American Concrete Company Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 18, after a machine hit a shallow gas line shortly before 1:38 p.m.

Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District units responded, and all lanes of Main Street were shut down for about two hours between 15th Avenue and 18th Avenue while Northwest Natural Gas responded to repair the pipe.

Police Chief Jason Ogden said residents in that block were evacuated while the repairs took place.
