Standoff on 12th Avenue

Police Sgt. Ryan Cummings (visible in the first photo) watches at the top of the hill on 12th Avenue at about 9 a.m. Saturday morning, Dec. 17, as a fellow officer negotiates, further down in the 700 block, with a 28-year-old man who had allegedly texted 911 dispatchers, stating that he was in danger and that someone in the house had a gun and was threatening to kill him.
Police and Sheriff's deputies responded, shutting down the street.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the man eventually emerged but would not identify himself or follow law enforcement officers' commands. He was tased, and ultimately taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation. An investigation determined that there was no one in the house with a gun.
