I stepped out of the crowding alley quickly as Ervin released the cow I’d just checked. The next one was charging with Ella right on her heels.

Ella was a middle-aged border collie. She had been on the farm enough years to know her job well. When one cow left the chute, she had another one heading down the alley. The cows also knew Ella. If they failed to follow her instructions, she’d be biting at their heels.
