Janice "Jan" Willanna Daniels was born Dec. 25, 1940, in Foster, to Bill and Mamie Tabler.
Jan died on Dec. 13, 2022, of dementia at Hillview Adult Foster Home, where she lived happily this past year. She was 81.
Jan is survived by her sister, Twilo Scofield; her children, Traci (Jeff) Gagner, Todd (Lisa K.) Daniels, and Tom (Lisa A.) Daniels; her five grandchildren, Scott (Kristiina) Gagner, Cassidy (Casey) Stone, Chelsea (Shawn) Grimm, Brooke (Kyle) Zalewski and Olivia Daniels; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah and Wyatt Gagner, and Camden and Allison Stone.
Jan grew up in Foster, and attended Foster Elementary School through the eighth grade.
She graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1959 and went on to cosmetology school in Salem.
She married Howard Daniels June 5, 1960. Jan worked as a hairdresser for many years while raising her children. She also received her fioral and realtor licenses. Jan directed and chaperoned the Miss Linn County Pageant in the early 1970s, which included chaperoning Miss Oregon to Atlantic City, N.J., in 1971.
She was involved in Chips and Splinters during this time also.
Jan, with Howard, owned Tn-T Sportswear in Sweet Home for a few years in the 1980s. She went on to work for Sweet Home Sanitation, dabbled in real estate a few years, and was the secretary for Tim Finley at Farmers Insurance in Albany.
She finally went back to her mom's assisted living home as a hairdresser until her husband was diagnosed with cancer.
Jan loved her family more than anything, and especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities. She was very artistic; she loved baking, oil painting, crafting and writing poems.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Daniels, parents Bill and Mamie Tabler, brother Wayne Tabler, and granddaughter Amy Maisto.
The family will have a private burial. To honor Jan, a gathering will be held for family and friends from 1 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 28, 2023, at Traci and Jeff Gagner's residence.
