Howard Leslie Lewis, 81, of Sweet Home, died Dec. 27, 2022.
He was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Los Angeles, Calif. to LeRoy Leslie and Elizabeth Emma (James) Lewis.
He served in the U.S. Navy, as a structural firefighter, from Oct. 7, 1959 to Sept. 29, 1961. He was stationed in Guam as an E-3.
Mr. Lewis came to Oregon to help his parents design their homes and find water at the Old Holley Road property. He cut a willow stick and found a healthy vein of water and that's where the story begins.
Mr. Lewis worked in construction. He built his own home in 1974, in which he was still living at his death.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and stained glass.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his daughter Leslie of Sweet Home; sisters Dolly Miller of Lakeview and Caroline Flores of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela M. Howes Lewis.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday, Jan. 14, at Sweet Home Evangelical Church.
Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
