The Oregon Consumer League is making landlord/tenant law a priority as they try to base law on a model by the Uniform Code Commissioners. When a product such as a car or radio is bought, there is an implied warranty that the product is fit for use.
But if you rent an apartment, there's no Oregon law requiring the premises be fit to live in. If you complain to the Health Dept. about unfit conditions, you can be evicted. The Landlord and Tenant bill would provide some new rights for the tenant.
