Samuel Slaughter

Samuel Ray Slaughter, 90, of Sweet Home, died March 16, 2023.

He was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Stillwater, Okla., to Chester Harley and Winnie Mae (Hadlock) Slaughter.

When he was very young his family moved to Hood River. When he was 8, they moved back to Glencoe, Okla. He graduated from Glencoe High School in 1950 and then moved to Sweet Home in 1951.

Mr. Slaughter enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952, serving in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1957. After the service he came to Sweet Home, spent a bit of time in Lebanon and then eventually settled in Sweet Home.

Mr. Slaughter was a member of the American Legion, the Elks, and the Eagles in Albany.

He enjoyed dancing, woodworking, building, fishing and hunting.

Mr. Slaughter is survived by his son, Kinnon and daughter-in-law Karen of Sweet Home; daughter Linda Pitts of Sweet Home; a grandson and three great-grandchildren, all of Gaston; and sister Francis Ottum of California.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene on March 24, 2019; and siblings David, Ralph, Elizabeth, Tressie, Naomi, Lois and Helen. 

Viewing will be at noon Friday, March 24, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.

Final burial, with military honors, will be at Gilliland Ceme-tery.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
