Linn County Snowmobile Team assists in Marion County rescue

Linn County Sheriff's Office's snowmobile team members assisted in the rescue of two snowmobilers who ventured into the Breintenbush area Sunday, April 2, and did not return.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office received a call from the missing pair Sunday evening, according to a news release.

Marion County Search and Rescue, along with volunteers from the Linn County Sheriff's Office snowmobile team, responded and located the two people in several feet of snow. Neither were injured and were reunited with their families.

The rescued pair are from the area and they have declined to be interviewed or comment on the incident.

Here are some snowmobile safety tips, offered by the Marion County Sheriff's Office:

-- Take a snowmobile safety course.

-- Follow the service schedule.

-- Have a helmet. Find one that meets the U.S. Department of Transportations standards and fits you properly.

-- Dress the part.

-- Watch the weather.

-- Take your smartphone

-- Watch your speed and stick to the speed limit.

-- Keep your lights on.

-- Scout your route and alert others regarding where you plan to go.

-- Avoid riding on frozen lakes and rivers.

-- Don't drink and ride.

-- Ride with others.

-- Insure your snowmobile.
