Lopez finishes mid-pack in Summit decathlon

Mason Lopez finished 14th in a field of 25 competitors Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1, at the Summit Decathlon/Heptathlon hosted by Summit High School.
Lopez, a senior competing in his first decathlon, which includes 10 events representing the gamut of track and field, was second overall in his specialty, the javelin, throwing 154-2¾, well off his season-best of 166-7, posted the week before at Central Linn.
He finished with 3,743 points, which are calculated based on how well a competitor performs in each of the 10 events.
