Raymond "Ray" Henry Davis, Jr., 84, of Sweet Home, died May 5, 2023.
He was born June 12, 1938, in Burgdorf Hot Springs, Idaho, the son of Raymond H. and Roma (Barns) Davis, Jr.
Mr. Davis came to Sweet Home in 1969, moved to Astoria in 1975, and back to Sweet Home in 1983. He started working, cutting and peeling redwoods with his dad and grandfather in California. His main job was as a spreader man. He made sheets of plywood by laying veneer with glue strips in between.
He also built houses throughout California and Oregon. He was a jack-of-all-trades.
Mr. Davis was an outdoors person. He loved to hunt, fish, water ski and ride motorcycles.
He is survived by his children, Cynthia Carson, of Astoria, Duane Davis of Sweet Home, Jennifer Goodwin of Warrrenton, Terry Davis of West Virginia, and Donald Davis of Lebanon; brothers Boots, Buddy and Jerry; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Bernice Davis, on Feb. 23, 2023; brother Larry Davis in 2022; and his parents, Roma and Raymond Sr.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at Gilliland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
