Proposed HB3256, which would have designated part of the South Santiam River as a scenic waterway, was defeated by more than 2:1 on the Oregon House floor.
The vote ws 37 to 17 after several attempts to delay the bill or send it back to committee were rejected.
Rep. Bud Buyers led the fight on the floor, armed with 1,308 signatures of people opposed to the bill. Buyers was surprised by the defeat, but attributed its success to the petition and testimony on the floor.
