June 1973: Mary Blanchard displays her winning poster for Girl Scout Camp, slated for June 25-29. Mary drew her poster during a Scouts meeting and was chosen as winner by the senior art class of Mrs. Gayle Gregory at Sweet Home High School. Day Camp will be at Sankey Park. Registration information can be obtailed by phoning Mrs. Rose Woodard or Mrs. Marie Philpott. Non-Scouts are welcome.

Proposed HB3256, which would have designated part of the South Santiam River as a scenic waterway, was defeated by more than 2:1 on the Oregon House floor.
The vote ws 37 to 17 after several attempts to delay the bill or send it back to committee were rejected.
Rep. Bud Buyers led the fight on the floor, armed with 1,308 signatures of people opposed to the bill. Buyers was surprised by the defeat, but attributed its success to the petition and testimony on the floor.
