July 1973: Anne Neufeld, who recently moved to Oregon from Illinois, has been named news editor of The New Era, starting this week. Miss Neufeld graduated cum laude from Oberlin College in Ohio this year and has previous experience as an intern reporter for an Ohio daily newspaper and as a sports reporter for Chicago Suburban Newspaper.

A petition was filed asking the state Health Division and Board of Health to initiate annexation of the Foster-Midway area to the City of Sweet Home. The petition, circulated by R.E. Douglas, contained the names of 17 persons. Under state annexation law, only 11 are needed to initiate proceedings, and the Health Division has the authority to initiate the annexation when a health hazard is believed to exist. Three state and county health agencies believe that hazard is present due to contamination of wells and septic tanks.
