Swarm of bees breaks up dump-site conference on how to put out fire, which started at Holley Dump early Monday morning. City Manager Michael Gleason is in the foreground, while the group behind includes Lester Weld, operator of Sweet Home Sanitation Service and dump operator; Fire Chief Ivan Hoy; and Assistant Fire Chief Ron Fogle. The fire is still burning at the dump but is under constant surveillance.

Aug. 23, 1973

Mark Miner shot himself in the foot while practicing quick draws with a .22 pistol. After being treated at the hospital, it was reported the bullet did not hit any bones.

A billboard owned by Sweet Home on the east side of I-5 will be demolished due to a federal and state decision to remove many billboards from highways. The sign includes space for the city to advertise its events.
