Larry Johnson
Dec. 2, 1944 - Nov. 7, 2023
Larry Johnson, 78, was born in Gooding, Idaho. Larry was a veteran of the Army. He worked for a while as a beer company rep. He also started an importation business of leather clothing from Mexico. He finished working with the State of Idaho Highway Department and retired after 27 years. Larry was a 15-year member of the Elks Lodge in Sweet Home. Larry helped with maintenance of the building and getting the monthly bulletin mailed to the members. Larry also received the Elk of the Year award. Larry was a very good poker player and his personality made him a pleasure to play with, even when he beat you -- which was often -- and that is how he received the nickname "Dirty Dog." A player he beat said, "You dirty dog," and Larry loved it. Thereafter he was known as Dirty Dog, Doggie, or just Dog.
Larry was a very good friend to everyone and will be missed.
Larry is survived by brother Don Johnson of Alaska and daughter, Joan Sister of Idaho, son Ken Johnson, daughter Denice Johnson of Medford, Ore., step-daughter Lorri Jacobson and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Charla Johnson.
A celebration of life and potluck will be Saturday, Nov. 25, at 12 noon at the Elks Lodge, Sweet Home.
