19-year-old Manuel Galindo of Redmond is recovering after his car rolled down an embankment along Highway 20 near milepost 65. Oregon State Police said they responded to the crash at about 11:30, after Galindo sent an alert through his Apple device. An Oregon Department of Transportation employee first arrived on scene, noticing a broken snow level indicator pole.
Troopers said Galindo drove off the road after failing to negotiate a turn, sending his Volkswagen Eos about 250 feet into the creek below. Sweet Home Fire members joined a trooper in rappelling down to find Galindo and bringing him back up, OSP said.
Weather prevented OSP crews from removing the car until a “better plan” is established, according to the agency.
