Sweet Home’s Hero Half Marathon, 8K (just over 5 miles) and 1.3-mile run on May 24 drew some 230 runners in what organizer Rachel Kittson-MaQatish descibed as an effort to “provide a safe place where families can try to heal and come together wtih others who have suffered a loss, and try to unite them together.” Kittson-MaQatish founded the event last year as a means to reach out to families of men and women who have been wounded or died in service to their country. Kittson-MaQatish said community support has been high. “Drive through Lebanon and every reader board said “Hero Half,” she said. The half marathon was won by last year’s winner, Jason Hawthorne, who finished in 1:27:14. Sweet Home’s Ricky Yunke, 14, was third in 1:44.49, His mother, Shawna Yunke, was the second female finisher, in 1:55.05. Ryan Graville of Sweet Home was the top finisher in the 8K, running 34:15.
