The Sweet Home Sweet Ride Car Show will be back on the field between Sweet Home Junior High and Husky Field at 880 22nd Ave. this Saturday, with an expected 200-plus vehicles on display.
“We’re doing OK on registrations,” said Susan Angland, one of the directors. Going into this week they had received more than 100 registrations, and she predicted that if the weather is good that will at least double.
The event, presented by the Kiwanis Club of Sweet Home, will benefit Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the Sweet Home Police Department’s programs for local children,Shop With a Cop, and Sunshine Industries.
Also participating in putting on the show will be the Sweet Home Rotary Club, the Linn/Benton Young Marines, the Sportsman’s Holiday Court, the Veterans Club, Mayor Craig Fentiman and a host of other volunteers.
A former Miss Oregon USA and the current 2012 Miss Oregon Teen USA will be available for photographs and will make special presentations.
Sportsman’s Holiday Court members will choose the “Princesses’ Sweet Ride” trophy. Mayor Craig Fentiman will select his favorite vehicle for the Mayor’s Choice award, Sweet Home Fire Department will award the “Coolest Flames” trophy and representatives of the Sweet Home Police Department and the Linn Co. Sheriff’s Office will choose the vehicle “Most Likely to Get a Ticket.”
Sweet Home police and fire department vehicles will be on exhibit.
At least 100 hand-made trophies will be awarded, and 15 children, most of them Doernbecher’s patients, will choose their favorite entries and personally award a “Kid’s Pick” trophy to the winners.
The showwill include a raffle, a 50/50 drawing, and a poker walk, in which participants with the three best poker hands will win $100, $75, or $25.
Early car show registrants get one hand free, additional poker hands are $3 each or two for $5.
The Kiwanis Club wants your club represented here in Sweet Home. As an incentive, the club participation award will be accompanied by a check for $100 which will go to the charity of the winning club’s choice.
