Three blazes on Friday keep SHFAD crewmembers busy

Two separate fires destroyed an old camper and burned a quarter acre of brush Friday afternoon, April 26, in the Sweet Home area.

Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded simultaneously to the fires, at 3:20 p.m. to the RV fire at 40115 Mountain Home Drive and, a minute later, at 3:21 p.m. to 49259 Hwy. 20 in Cascadia, the old Triple T Studs mill.

According to the district fire report, the camper was owned by Bessie Lovik. It was old and used to store old tools. The loss was valued at $200.

The fire started when a neighbor was burning brush, according to the report. A sudden wind blew burning material under the camper, burning the camper and the grass and brush around the camper.

Oregon Department of Forestry responded with the SHFAD to the brush fire in Cascadia.

Earlier in the day, Sweet Home five firefighters responded, assisting Brownsville Fire Department, to a reported structure fire at 25135 Little Valley Lane off Courtney Creek Drive, said Fire Chief Dave Barringer.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, which had been contained in the attic. The lower part of the house did not catch fire.
