2002 fire season season severe, but S.H. area escapes major events

Although the Sweet Home area didn’t experience a major fire to the magnitude of those elsewhere throughout the state, fire season was severe, according to Paul Bell, district forester.

Bell said the district burn indices were “well above our five year average. Rainfall June through October was just 3.65 inches compared to the 25 year average of 8.81 inches.”

“We attribute much of our success to being very aggressive on initial fire attacks,” Bell said.…
