The Chamber of Commerce announced the members of its 2011 Sportsman’s Holiday Court last week.

Court members are Laura Grove, Ami Olmsted, and Kimber Swanson.

Princess Laura, a senior at East Linn Christian Academy, is the daughter of Charlie and Susan Grove. She is a Trauma Intervention Program volunteer, and she plays tennis at Lebanon High School.

Princess Ami, a junior at SHHS, is the daughter of Stephanie Olmsted. She is a member of the SHHS Forestry Club.

Princess Kimber, a junior at Sweet Home High School, is the daughter of Scott and Miriam Swanson, owners and publishers of The New Era. She is active in choir, swimming and cross country.

“These three young ladies met our eligibility requirements, were interviewed by a committee of five people and were selected,” said court Chaperone Wendy Smith.

The court will preside over Sportsman’s Holiday, themed “Fabulous Fifties,” this year.

The announcement was later than usual because the deadline to apply was extended to get more additional participation, Smith said. She wanted to remind girls in the community that the court provides benefits to its members.

The court sells raffle tickets for a drawing during Sportsman’s Holiday, raising money for scholarships and court expenses.

“Last year, the girls worked really hard, and they earned $3,000 in scholarships,” Smith said.

Serving on the court not only provides scholarships, Smith said, it also helps with resumes.

Coronation will be at the Chips ’n’ Splinters event to be held July 7, kicking off Sportsman’s Holiday, July 7-10.

This year’s Chips ’n’ Splinters will include a talent contest, Smith said. Many people attending last year’s Chips ’n’ Splinters wanted to see a winner selected.

“The Chamber of Commerce has decided, rather than doing a lot of additional things for Sportsman’s Holiday weekend, to support Chips ’n’ Splinters because it’s the kickoff for the whole weekend.”
