2016 Christmas Parade winners

The Legendary Longhorns won the Sweepstakes Trophy during the annual Sweet Home Christmas Parade, held Dec. 3.

The Sweet Home Parade Committee’s Choice went to the South Santiam Youth Watershed Council.

Legendary Longhorns placed first in the animal division. The Rhinestone Riders 4-H group was second.

The 2017 Sportsman’s Holiday Court won the royalty trophy, and Sweet Home Choppers was first in the vehicles category.

The Youth Watershed Council placed first in the youth category, and Boy Scouts Troop 362 and Cub Scouts Pack 395 were second.

In the business category, Laura Gillott Home Team, Keller Williams, placed first, followed by the Sherri Gregory Home Team and Cedar Shack.

The AmVets received the first-place trophy in fraternal and nonprofits category.

“With the limited time frame we had and getting approval less than two weeks before the parade, I think it went swimmingly,” said Debbie Walvatne, committee chairwoman.

The Parade Committee applied for a permit for the parade late this year following scheduling conflicts for a Friday evening parade that prompted the Chamber of Commerce to cancel its plans for a parade this year. At that point, the Parade Committee went forward with a Saturday morning parade.

“I think it’s wonderful how the businesses came together to put the parade on,” Walvatne said. “I was impressed with how many people came out.”
