Oregon Department of Forestry announced the Sweet Home area is officially entering fire season beginning Monday, July 1.
The South Cascade District (Sweet Home and Eastern Lane) and Western Lane Districts are all under fire season as of this day due to temperature, fuel moisture content and relative humidity. ODF reported the number of fire calls have been relatively low, but grass is starting to cure out and conditions are primed for fire to move across the landscape.
ODF districts to the south, as well as the two fire associations (Coos Forest Protective Association and Douglas Forest Protective Association) are already in fire season. The ODF districts to the north will likely go into fire season around the first of July also.
