27th Avenue searches result in four arrests

Four people were arrested Wednesday, June 24, during two searches of homes on 27th Avenue, according to Sweet Home police.

The SHPD, with assistance from the Linn County Regional SWAT Team, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Albany and Lebanon police and the Drug Enforcement Administration, served two narcotic-related search warrants at approximately 7:20 a.m. at homes across the street from each other.

One warrant was served at 1190 27th Ave., where police found a “heavily fortified structure” and three adults.

According to a police statement, detectives seized methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and $53,360. Sweet Home Public Works employees assisted in retrieving evidence suspects were allegedly trying to flush down the toilet, according to police.

Eric Wayne McKnight, 45, and Jasmine Nichole Magdaleno, 33, were both arrested for distribution and possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and tampering with evidence.

Both remained lodged at Linn County Jail Monday.

McKnight’s elderly mother was present during the search, but police said she was not involved in criminal activity and was not arrested.

She is being cared for by relatives.

Across the street, at 1191 27th Ave., police said, they located two more adults and a juvenile, along with methamphetamine, cash and drug records.

Kevin Lee Williams, 47, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and endangering the welfare of a minor, as well as on outstanding warrants.

Nora Louise Cockrell, 42, was arrested for endangering the welfare of a minor and frequenting a place where controlled substances are used or sold.

The child found in the home was taken into protective custody and is being cared for by relatives.

Police said the narcotics investigation was prompted due to reported drug sales at both locations. McKnight and Magdaleno have previous convictions for narcotics-related offenses, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Cyndi Pichardo at the Sweet Home Police Department, (541) 367-5181.
