4 chosen to lead graduates

Sweet Home High School’s 2012 valedictorians are Kristen Tolle, Tyler Fosback and Tiffany Miller. Kyle Winslow is salutatorian.

The school will graduate approximately 155 students at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Husky Field. Baccalaureate will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Chapel.

“I’m the weak one,” Winslow joked during a presentation on Thursday. He was tripped up when he received a B in an advanced placement history class. He will graduate with a 3.94 GPA.

“We’re very proud of you,” said Principal Pat Stineff. “You’ve done a great job. You’ve worked hard.”

Tolle, Miller and Fosback finish with a 4.0 GPA.

“Next year, I plan to go to Oregon State University and go into forest engineering,” Tolle said. After college, Tolle wants to work outdoors and see where that takes her.

Tolle is the daughter of Joan and Dave Tolle, both teachers in the school district.

She enjoyed chemistry “just because Mrs. (Cheryll) Munts is such a cool teacher.”

She served three years in student leadership and has been active in soccer, basketball, concert and jazz bands and the Forestry Club. She was the soccer team’s Most Valuable Player for three years and a first-team goalie. She won Overall Jill and Overall Technical Forester state titles in forestry. She was Sweet Home Junior First Citizen.

Miller said she is headed to Southern Oregon University to study computer science. She plans to use her college degree to work as an information technician. She is the daughter of Brian and Cherie Miller.

She loved calculus, she said. “Our teacher’s (Dan Tow) awesome.”

She was active in volleyball for four years, in track her junior year and on class board for three years. She was named First Team All-League once in volleyball and Second Team twice. She earned the team’s Hustle and Outstanding Player awards.

Fosback will attend Linn-Benton Community College and OSU to study computer science. He plans to become a game designer after college. He is the son of Terry and Kristie Fosback.

He enjoyed Munts’ chemistry class and was active in the school’s Java Club, a computer programming club aimed at designing Android games.

Fosback was a member of the National Honor Society and was an Academic All-American.

Winslow is planning to attend Whitworth College in Spokane, dual-enrolling at Washington State University to become a land surveyor. He plans to intern at Cascade Timber Consulting while in school and then serve a full-time internship after graduating college. He plans to return and stay in Oregon.

Winslow is the son of Keith and Brenda Winslow. He said he also loved studying math and calculus in Tow’s class.

He was active in soccer, baseball and basketball. He served as kicker in football as a senior.

He has been student body president for two years and was Linn County Junior First Citizen. He was freshman boy of the year. He was Second-Team All-League in soccer and baseball.
