Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, June 17, is a Father’s Day special featuring a chicken patty parmesan or meatloaf with gravy, whipped potatoes, capri mixed vegetables, cracked wheat bread and ice cream.

The Sweet Home Community Center is closed Monday, June 20, to observe the Juneteenth holiday.

The menu on Tuesday, June 21, is lima beans and turkey ham or chicken spaghetti, California mixed vegetables, tossed salad, a multigrain roll and Grace’s chocolate bar.

Museum director to address meeting

Albany Regional Museum director Keith Lohse will discuss its audible-exhibits project during the 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, meeting of the Mid Valley Low Vision Support Group at Brookdale Grand Prairie, 1920 Grand Prairie Road, Albany.

The community service project, helmed by chairwoman Annie Holsworth, will feature button-activated pre-recorded voices of exhibit descriptions to allow low-vision and blind patrons to enjoy the museum without the need for sighted companions.

The presentation is free and open to all. Refreshments will be available. No reservations are necessary.

The Mid Valley Low Vision Support Group is a self-funded nonprofit. No membership fees are charged. For more information, call (541) 974-6233.

Sweet Ride to pull into SH June 25

The Sweet Home Sweet Ride charity car show for children will run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25, on the track and field at Sweet Home Junior High School, 880 22nd Ave.

The event will feature cars, pickups, motorcycles, 4-by-4s, semis, log trucks and vintage trailers. Activities include a burn-out pit, 50/50, vendor alley, a poker walk, music and more than 100 trophies. A food court will also be available.

Entries for the burn-out pit are $10 per vehicle for a first pass and $2 for each additional pass. Veterans’ vehicles with insignias are admitted free.

PEO to host June 17 garage sale

The Sweet Home PEO, Chapter DD, is holding its annual garage sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 17, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Sweet Home Evangelical Church, 1347 Long St.

Orders for flash-frozen blueberries and Columbia star blackberries will also be taken through July 7 at $29 for a nine-pound pail.

All proceeds sponsor local women’s scholarships.

Tent gathering set for June 24-26

The Reigning Glory Ministry Center of Sweet Home will hold a “Way of Hope” tent gathering Friday to Sunday, June 24-26, next to the Turning Point Church of Lebanon, 30337 Fairview Road.

Hours are 6 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Free lunches to be available to kids

The Sweet Home School District is offering free summer lunches to children 18 and under at the following locations:

— June 27 through Aug. 19: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Pleasant Valley Little Promises, 28028 Pleasant Valley Road, Sweet Home (breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.); 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Sweet Home High School, 1641 Long St. (breakfast is served from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m.); 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., around the back of Foster Elementary School, 5526 Poplar St., Foster; 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Oak Heights Elementary School, 610 Elm St., Sweet Home; and noon to 12:30 p.m., Ashbrook Park, 28th Ave. and Juniper St., Sweet Home.

— June 27 through July 22: noon to 12:30 p.m., Sweet Home Junior High School, 880 22nd Ave. (breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9 a.m.).

No meals will be served at any of these sites July 4 or Aug. 1.

Fire academy set for girls in county

Girls aged 16 to 19 are invited to attend the Linn County Young Women’s Fire Academy June 23-24.

The two-day event is a free, hands-on opportunity to learn from female firefighters at Lebanon Fire Station 31, 1050 W. Oak St.

Museum seeks donations for sale

The East Linn Museum seeks donations for its annual fundraising yard sale, scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the museum, 746 Long St.

Household items, clothing, books, tools, sporting goods and more will be accepted. Please bring these donations to the museum between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Volunteers are also needed to help set up the sale and to assist throughout the day.

Tickets available for county fair

Reserved seating tickets are available for main stage entertainment at the Linn County Fair, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, July 14-16, at the Linn County Expo Center, 3700 Knox Butte Road E, Albany.

Fair hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

This year’s headliners include Sara Evans on July 14, Five for Fighting on July 15 and Sawyer Brown on July 16. All performances begin at 8:30 p.m.

General seating is free with daily admission ($7 general, $5 seniors over 60 and free for children 12 and under), but reserved seats are $22-$30. Daily parking is $5.

Three-day passes are $21 general, $15 for seniors and FFA/4-H members and $15 for parking. A family fun pack for the carnival is $120, which is good for any single day of the fair and includes four general admission tickets and four all-day carnival wristbands. A Pick-Your-Day Fun Pack, which includes one of each item, is available for $35. An all-day carnival wristband is available for $32 by Sunday, July 10.

SH Class of 1977 schedules reunion

Sweet Home High School’s Class of 1977 is celebrating its 45-year reunion Saturday and Sunday, July 16-17, with a series of events at various locations.

A walk will begin, weather permitting, at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the upper parking lot at McDowell Creek Falls County Park, 43170 McDowell Creek Drive, Lebanon. A meet and greet follows at 2 p.m. at Pineway Golf Course, 30949 Pineway Road, Lebanon, with conversations to catch up and discuss the “Kids Don’t Float” fundraiser life jacket loaner locations at Foster Lake and Camp Attitude. A buffet dinner will be served at 5 p.m. The cost for the latter is $25 per person. Umpqua Bank has an account for the deposit of the dinner cost and fundraiser donations.

Sunday features an 11 a.m. worship invitation, followed by a 12:30 classmate potluck and sandwich lunch at Freedom Hill Church, 2470 Main St., Sweet Home.

Guitars Under the Stars tickets

Advance tickets are available for the fifth annual Guitars Under the Stars, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 29-30, at Cheadle Lake Park, 37941 Weirich Drive, Lebanon.

Gates open at 3 p.m. Friday and at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The full slate includes such performers as Mark Mendoza (Twisted Sister), Stu Hamm, Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmsteen, Journey), Ron Keel (Keel, Steeler and Saber Tiger), Chris Poland (Megadeth), Mark Heylmun (Suicide Silence), Thöm Häzäert, Ernie Iniguez (Quietude, Salimus), Brandon Cook (The Loyal Order, Black N’ Blue), Jason Bieler (Saigon Kick), Chris Martucci (Stone Sour, Black Star Riders). Among the featured bands are Lilac, The Loyal Order, Sweater for an Astronaut and ED to Shred.

Tickets are $70 for advance two-day festival passes, $35 for Friday and $40 for Saturday. Camping passes are $40 in advance and $150 for RV parking.
