Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, Dec. 10, is chicken breast supreme or roast pork with gravy, colcannon potatoes, winter-blend vegetables, cracked wheat bread and lemon blondie.

The menu on Monday, Dec. 13, is a chicken alfredo or southwest omelet bake, Italian-blend vegetables, tossed salad, a white dinner roll and seasonal fresh fruit.

The menu on Tuesday, Dec. 14, is cowboy campfire stew or turkey and penne pasta, capri-blend vege-tables, pickled beets, a squash roll and a butterscotch bar.

TOPS meeting Thursdays in SH

Take Off Pounds Sensibly, a group promoting and encouraging healthy weight loss, meets Thursdays at Sweet Home Christian Church, 1825 Long St.

Weigh-ins begin at 9:15 a.m., followed by the 10 a.m. meeting.

Leaf collection through Dec. 17

The City of Sweet Home is collecting leaves on city streets through Friday, Dec . 17.

Residents are asked to put loose leaves in piles on the street, away from parked cars and a foot away from the curb to allow for water drainage. Leaf piles should be larger than a 90-gallon debris can and must not contain limbs, yard debris or any type of bagging materials.

City crews will collect the leaves upon request.

ODOT announces Highway 20 work

The Oregon Department of Transportation has commenced work on safety improvements to Highway 20 between Albany and Corvallis.

Phase 1, which covers the area from west of Garland Nursery to the Bowers Slough Bridge, is expected to be completed by August 2023. The first week includes surveying and restriping the full project area.

Drivers should expect nighttime work with a single lane of traffic using flaggers and pilot cars to control the work zone. There may be up to 20 minute delays.

Work will continue over the first few months near Independence Highway on the south side of Highway 20. Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures during evenings between Sunday and Friday.

Gala presented at high school

A Christmas Gala concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the auditorium at Sweet Home High School, 1641 Long St.

A VIP reception will begin at 6 p.m.

The event, sponsored is hosted by Miriam Swanson and Robert Burford and features Stefan Brown, Cathy Cheshire, and David and Titus Dominy. Alison Hurst, Mac MacNulty, Melody Reese, Tom Jordan and Scott Swanson. Special guest is Jessie Leigh.

Christmas market set at Mollie’s

A Sweet Home Christmas Market will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the parking lot at the former Mollie’s Bakery & Restaurant, 1333 Main St.

Volunteers, artists, craftsmen, food vendors, fun vendors and entertainment are still needed for the event.

Holiday store opening for youth

The seventh Christmas Store for Sweet Home youth between ages 2 and 12 will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Hope Church, 890 Mountain View Road.

The free event is for children and their families. Personal shoppers take them to each gift table, and presents are wrapped for placement under the family Christmas tree at home.

Holiday events set before parade

A number of events will be held in league with the 2021 Parade of Lights, running down Long Street from 22nd Ave. to Oak Terrace at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11.

A Christmas Block Party holiday bazaar begins at 10 a.m. inside the former Wells Fargo bank building, 1266 15th Ave. The event is sponsored by Oak Creek Collection, Sweet Home Shabby Chic and Tipsy Gypsy Tap Trailer. The Oregon Kettle Company will also be on hand.

The “Blue Santa,” held in conjunction with Angila Tack Food Services and the Sweet Home Police Department, also runs on the property from 4 to 6 p.m. Children will be able to take pictures with St. Nick during the event.

OSU announces winter career fair

Oregon State University has announced its slate for its Winter Term Career Fair series, with multiple events scheduled for February 2022.

The virtual Winter Civil and Construction Engineering Fair, which attracts some 70 employers in those fields, will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14. Sign up for the event at https://bit.ly/3IbXjpv.

The Winter Career and Internship Fair for all industries will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, in the Memorial Union ballroom on OSU’s Corvallis campus. The 2022 Nonprofit and Public Service Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Memorial Union ballroom.

Celebrate holidays with After 5

After 5 Connection returns with “Hang Your Stockings with Care,” a program to be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Ma’s Restaurant, 2416 S. Santiam Highway, Lebanon.

All ladies and gentlemen are invited. Guest speaker Laura Loffredo, a retired bed-and-breakfast owner from Chicago, will re-enact Biblical scenes featuring Mary learning she is to become the mother of the Messiah. The evening will also include a traditional sing-along, fun and food. Please bring a wrapped pair of fun socks for a gift exchange.
