Samaritan to offer nutrition webinar

Nutrition can impact your health now – but did you know it can impact the health of future generations, too?

Learn more on this topic at a free one-hour webinar, Power of Nutrition, to be presented Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m.

Anyone with an interest in this topic is welcome to attend, whether a member of the general public or from the health care community.

Presenter Kent Thornburg, PhD, professor of medicine at Ore-gon Health & Science University, will cover such topics as:

n The long-term changes in chronic disease rates including obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

n The biological changes that occur over generations connected to poor nutrition and social stress.

n The foundations of physical changes that lead to higher disease risk.

n The changes in medical practices that will help patients plan a healthier life course.

The webinar is presented by the Samaritan Center for Health Education and Oregon Pacific Area Health Education Center. Although there is no charge, registration is requested by going online to bit.ly/CHEnutrition.

Photos to honor cancer survivors

To honor cancer survivors, the ArtsCare Program at Samaritan Health Services is collecting photos of cancer survivors to build an art installation that will be called the Wall of Hope.

The Wall of Hope will celebrate survivorship, offering hope and inspiration to individuals currently undergoing cancer treatment. It will be displayed in the Samaritan Radiation Oncology building in Corvallis but may move to other locations later.

If you’ve had your own journey with cancer, you’re encouraged to participate by sending an email to [email protected] with the following:

Your name and contact information (email and phone number).

A photo of your smiling face. NOTE: Please send a high-resolution digital photo (jpg or tif).

Upon submission of the photo, you will be asked to complete a consent form. This signed consent form gives Samaritan permission to use your photo in our Wall of Hope display and in other areas which may be viewable to the public.

Optional: Share a few words of hope and inspiration you want to pass along to others.

In the email, include Wall of Hope in the subject line. Submissions are required by Friday, April 30.

For more information, contact ArtsCare Program Coordinator Sara Krainik at [email protected] or (541) 768-6762.
