Halloween week: museum storytelling to harvest fests

Here are other events planned for Sweet Home and surrounding areas during Halloween week:

Murder and Mayhem at Museum

Stories of murder and mayhem in early Sweet Home will be shared from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at East Linn Museum, 746 Long St.

Admission is free. though donations are always welcome.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Oct. 28: Sweet Home Rotary Club will hold a Halloween Pumpkin Carving Contest and auction from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Sweet Home Boys & Girls Club next to the community center, 880 18th Ave.

Three grand prizes of $50 each will be offered for winning carvers aged 12 and under, over 12 and People’s Choice.

Bring completed pumpkins to the Boys & Girls Club by 11 a.m. and receive five raffle tickets for several great prizes. Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase at $1 each or $5 for six.

Vote for your favorite team – Oregon State University or the University of Oregon – and get a chance to win a university-themed basket and other great prizes.

Pumpkin pie will be available at $2 a slice, with proceeds going to the Rotary Club’s scholarship program.

Downtown Trick or Treat

Downtown merchants will pass out goodies between 3:30 and 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 along Main and Long streets, from Keller Williams-Sherri Gregory on the east end of town to Wiley Creek Community and Umpqua Bank on the east, and at Twin Oaks care center on Nandina Street.

The event is open to children ages 12 and under, with supervision.

Community Chapel Trunk or Treat

Community Chapel will host its annual Harvest Party Trunk or Treat from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Community Chapel, 42250 Ames Creek Road.

The event will include carnival games, trunk and treating, free hot dogs and popcorn, photo booth, drawings and prizes and live music. Everyone is welcome.

Holley Church Trick or Treat Street

Holley Christian Church will host its 12th annual Trick or Treat Street from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the Sweet Home Boy’s and Girl’s Club parking lot, 890 18th Ave.

Nazarene Church Harvest Party

The Church of the Nazarene will hold a Harvest Party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Oct. 31, at 415 Holley Road, across from Thriftway.

The event will include games, a bounce house, face painting, and lots of candy and fun.

Donaca House Tours

The historic 1800 Donaca House in Lebanon has been haunted with the side show freaks from the past.

Witness the horrific human oddities that Dr. Foley has created from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27 and 28, and Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 764 South 2nd St, Lebanon. $10 for adults, $5 for children under 18.

Ghost Hunting at Monteith House

The Monteith Society is hosting its annual VIP Ghost Hunting Experience from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday. Oct. 27, at the historic Monteith House, 518 SW 2nd Ave, Albany.

Each VIP experience is limited to 10 people who will be joined by experienced paranormal investigators, and will learn how to use various pieces of ghost hunting equipment. Dog Costume Contest

Ghouls and Growls The Lebanon Arts Commission will host a dog Halloween costume contest at the Strawberry Plaza in downtown Lebanon from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 28.

Cost is $10 per contestant. Prizes will be awarded for Most Adorable, Most Creative, Most Fanciful, Most Scary, and People’s Choice.
