Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the

Sweet Home Veterans Memorial, in front of Hoy’s Hardware.

Parking

is available at the Highway 20 Church of Christ, down the block.

Can

drive to raise funds for PBIS

Sweet

Home Junior High School will run a PBIS Recycling Drive from 9 a.m.

to noon on Friday, Nov. 6.

People

are asked to leave recycling on the curb or drop it off at the Junior

High, 880 22nd Ave. PBIS is the school’s positive behavior

reinforcement program.

Holiday

brunch at Methodist church

Sweet

Home United Methodist Church will host a Holiday Brunch from 10 a.m.

to noon on Saturday, Nov. 7, as a fund-raiser for the church’s

Christmas boxes.

The

menu will include a variety of flavors of muffins, peach Dutch

pancakes, broccoli and cheese casserole, Andouille sweet potato

frittata casserole, fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Cost

is a free-will offering. Tickets or reservations are not needed.

Father-daughter

dance Saturday

Fathers

are invited to escort their daughters to a Father-Daughter Dance, to

be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Sweet Home High School, 1641

Long St.

The

event is hosted by Sweet Home Junior High Cheer. Doors open at 6:30

p.m. for the inaugural event, and complementary “Cherish the

Moment” photos will be taken at admission. Cost is $25 per couple,

$5 for each additional daughter, aged 1-18. Semi-formal attire is

required.

Veterans

patriotic concert

in Lebanon

Willamette

Valley Concert Band and the Lebanon High School choirs will present

“Made in America,” a Veterans Day patriotic pops concert, at 2

p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Lebanon High School Auditorium.

Admission

is free, but donations will gratefully be accepted to benefit the

high school music department.

The

program includes “Within These Hallowed Halls” and “Hymn to the

Fallen” from “Saving Private Ryan,” “Armed Forces Salute,”

“Clarinet on the Town,” “The Three Trumpeters,” “Grand

Canyon Fanfare,” “Great America Fantasia,” “Yankee Patrol,”

“Stars and Stripes Forever,” and much more.

The

band will be directed by Dr. Richard A. Sorenson and the choirs by

Kevin Wong. Jeff McMahon of KGAL Radio will emcee.

Senior

safe driving program at SHPD

Sweet

Home Police Department will host a driver’s safety class for

seniors from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 7, in SHPD’s training

room.

The

Smart Driver Program, sponsored by AARP, is designed to help develop

and reinforce safe driving skills and techniques. Satisfactory

completion of this class may qualify participants who are 55 or older

for reduced auto insurance premiums (check with your insurance

carrier).

Cost

is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members to cover materials.

Gospel

concert at Lebanon church

The

Pacific Gospel Music Association will hold its Lebanon Road Tour from

2 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the First Assembly of God church,

event will feature a variety of local groups, including Liberty

Quartet, Knox Brothers, Cornerstone, Scrap Iron Band, The Arena

Family and many others.

Veterans

film at LBCC Saturday

Two

free showings of the documentary film “Project 22” will be held

at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7, at Linn-Benton

Community College’s Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall,

6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.

The

film includes interviews with leading researchers in the fields of

traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress, mental health

clinicians and educators, and leading experts in warrior culture and

combat stress.

This

event is free and open to the public. Refreshments provided after the

film.

Cole will discuss creative budgeting ideas for the holidays and guest

speaker Marge Thompson of Starbuck, Wash. will share how her life was

a “desert and wasteland” until she found solace and peace through

her “greatest adventure.”

Stand-Down

for veterans Nov. 12

A

Mid-Valley Stand Down for Homeless Veterans will be held from 9 a.m.

to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at The River Center, 3000 S. Santiam

Highway in Lebanon.

Multiple

organizations will provide information and help with all manner of

issues including job searches, medical care, legal aid, alcohol and

drug treatment, identification and more.

Food

and refreshments, personal care items and Department of Labor gear

will be available.

Participants

must bring proof of veteran status.

on Wheels weekly menu

Meals

on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the

Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays,

Tuesdays and Fridays.

The

Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time

diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested

donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea

upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The

lunch menu on Friday, Nov. 6, is BBQ smokehouse chop or honey mustard

chicken, Delmonico potatoes, peas and carrots, herb bread and

pineapple.

The

menu for Monday, Nov. 9, is Oriental shoyu chicken or liver and

onions, whipped potatoes with gravy, country trio vegetables,

sunflower seed bread and golden fruit cup.

The

menu for Tuesday, Nov. 10, is beef patty with gravy or chicken patty

with Dijon sauce, Lyonnaise potatoes, broccoli cuts, multigrain roll

and apple crisp.
