Tree farm taxation workshop Feb. 25
Learn how to lower the tax bite on tree farms in a free workshop held Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 7 to 8:20 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way.
The workshop will cover free to grow, logging, severance taxes and more. Class is open to everyone and there will be time for questions and answers. It is co-sponsored by Linn County Small Woodland Association and OSU Extension Service.

Hospital to hold Baby Blast info fair
New parents, who might wonder what resources are available in east Linn County for their baby’s growth and development, and for them as parents, are invited to the second annual Baby Blast informational event on Thursday, Feb. 26.
The free event will take place from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, conference rooms A-D. Parents of newborns are invited to drop in at any point during the event.
Sponsored by the hospital, Linn-Benton Community College and the Parenting Success Network, Baby Blast combines the fun of a baby shower with free health checks for babies. Representatives from several services in Lebanon and Sweet Home will be on hand with information about their services.
Prizes, healthy snacks, cupcakes and other refreshments will be available. Student art show starts March 2
Sweet Home High School’s 10th annual art show will be on display in the school library from March 2 through March 31.
An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 2 in the library.
Art work created by students in teacher Gelindo Ferrin’s painting, drawing and ceramics classes will be on display and for sale, as well as work by advanced art students. Other teachers in creative writing, poetry and fashion will show work from their students.
Hors d’oeuvres will be made by Suzette Andersen’s foods classes. Proceeds from the sale of artwork will benefit aspiring artists and the SHHS art department.

Gain an overview of popular tools, starting with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, in a class offered by Linn-Benton Community College’s Sweet Home Center.
Learn how to leverage your time, personalize privacy settings and even share content beyond your network. Basic computer skills required. Class will meet Wednesdays from 6 to 7:50 p.m., starting March 4 at the LBCC Sweet Home Center, 1661 Long St. Cost is $49.

Class on reducing tax via business
A free class on how to lower tax debt by owning your own business will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at Santiam Place, 139 S. Main St. in Lebanon.
Space is limited so RSVP’s are required.
Speakers are Kori Sarrett, a certified public accountant based in Albany who is well-versed on the 400-plus tax deductions available to the home-based business owner, and longtime pre-tax bookkeeper Ruth Miller.
Small business currently drives 70 percent of the economic growth in this country.
Therefore the IRS has two tax systems in place, one for the employed and one for business owners and entrepreneurs.
The class is an introduction to the benefits of owning your own business. Nothing will be for sale and participants will not be required to sign up for anything. Information will be available on expense-tracking tools for those who are already self-employed and information on current home-based business opportunities will be available if requested.

Diabetics invited to support group
East Linn County residents diagnosed with pre-diabetes or similar conditions are invited to a monthly support group for anyone diagnosed with diabetes, pre-diabetes or similar conditions.
The next group meeting will be Monday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to noon at the hospital. Linda James, a dental hygienist with Capitol Dental, will discuss the impact diabetes has on a patient’s dental health.
Pre-registration is required. Participants are encouraged to complete a Diabetes Prevention class before joining the support group, but it’s not required.

Pancake supper in Foster March 6
Sweet Home Boy Scouts will serve their Foster Scouter Club Fund-Raiser Dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the Foster School Cafeteria, 5526 Poplar St.
The all-you-can-eat dinner features pancakes, ham, eggs, coffee and milk. Gluten-free pancakes will be available. Cost is $5 for those over 12 and $3 for children under 12.
Also for sale will be tickets for a “Gift Basket” raffle, for $1 each. The drawing will take place at the dinner. Winners are not required to be present.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, Feb. 27, is baked fish with Tartar sauce or beef mushroom patty, garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli cuts, sunflower seed bread and frosted chocolate cake.
The menu for Monday, March 2, is chicken chop suey or sweet and sour pork, steamed rice, Oriental blend vegetables, marinated spring garden salad and blushing pears.
The menu for Tuesday, March 3, is turkey divan or macaroni and cheese, cabbage and carrots, spinach Romaine salad, cornmeal roll and tapioca pudding.
