Spaghetti meal for
transplant patient
A spaghetti feed fund-raiser will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Sweet Home Assembly of God, 890 Mountain View Road.
Cost is $5 a person or $20 for a family of four or more. All proceeds will go toward living expenses for John Campbell, who has been in Los Angeles waiting for a viable double lung transplant since January of this year. Campbell is a veteran of the first Gulf War who is suspected of developing the lung problem during his service during that deployment. The military has not recognized this medical condition.
The surgery took place July 11 and he is recovering at UCLA Medical Center. His wife Joyce continues to live and work in Sweet Home, resulting in mounting living expenses for two households, in addition to medical costs.
Gleaners plan Jamboree Cafe
The Fair Share Gleaners will hold a fund-raising breakfast and yard sale, called the Fair Share Gleaners Jamboree Cafe,Thursday through Sunday at 3714 Long St.
Breakfast includes pancakes, hash browns, French toast, scrambled eggs. Lunch includes hot dogs and sausage dogs with chips.

‘Seven Brides’ on stage next week
Lebanon Association for Theatre Arts will stage “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, Aug. 5 through 9, and a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at Lebanon High School Auditorium.
The production will involve some 90 people, including a cast of 60-plus, with an 18-piece orchestra.
Ticket prices are $5 for seniors/students and $8 for general admission.
Ticket outlets are: Linn Co Credit Union, Lebanon Chamber of Commerce, Umpqua Bank and Stainthorpe’s music in Lebanon. Tickets will also be available at the door before each show.
Theater camp for
teens in Lebanon
Lebanon Youth Theater Experience invites all students entering grades 7-10 to participate this summer in a new Outdoor Musical Theater Camp.
The outdoor camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 4-22 at the Lebanon farm property of director John Kluttz, with performances scheduled Aug. 21-23 and 28-30. Open auditions have been held, but private auditions are still available.
Cost is $125 for three weeks, which covers scripts, T-shirts, meals and all other camp necessities. The camp will include fun activities, workshops and rehearsals for the Broadway Junior production of the musical “Hairspray”.
Kluttz has taught choir and theater locally, has been involved with the Lebanon Association for Theater Arts but found its children’s programs mostly geared to elementary ages. That’s what prompted him to create LYTE.

Treasure hunt in
Sweet Home Aug. 9
East Linn Treasure Seekers will hold a Silver Hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Event Center (Rodeo Grounds).
The event will include a common coin hunt, a silver hunt, a free child’s hunt for ages 12 and under, and a clean-up hunt (keep anything you find). Prices range from $2 for the clean-up Hunt to $45 for the Silver Hunt, for non-members. Save $5 by pre-registering by Aug. 2.

Chamber plans
sale next month
Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce will hold a community garage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The purpose is to raise funds for an ADA-approved ramp at the chamber and Visitors Center building at that location. Cost is $10 per table. Hot dogs, chips and soda will be available for $2.

Head Start taking apps for 2014-15
Kidco Head Start Preschool Program is taking applications for children in the Sweet Home area.
Children must be 3 or 4 years old before Sept. 1. Interested families should apply right away.
The free, comprehensive program for low-income and special-needs families includes education, nutrition, medical and dental services, social services, parental education and services for children with disabilities. Emphasis is placed on socialization, thinking skills and hands-on learning. Parents are encouraged to participate.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
No lunch will be served on Friday, Aug. 1, due to the Oregon Jamboree.
The menu for Monday, Aug. 4, is chicken pastina or beef rigatoni, green peas, marinated zucchini salad, white dinner roll and orange whip.
The menu for Tuesday, Aug. 5, is Salisbury patty or roast pork with gravy, sour cream and chive potatoes, succotash, seven grain bread and chocolate frosted yellow cake.
